Work Schedule: 7am to 3:30pm (40 hours) per week


UAMS Head Start/Early Head Start currently serves 928 children at 16 sites throughout Pulaski County.  The program’s overall goal is to increase the social competence of children in low income families and children with disabilities, while improving the chances of success in school. Head Start/Early Head Start addresses the needs of the whole child including the educational, vocational and material needs of the entire family.  The program strives to enhance children’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development while enabling parents to be better caregivers and teachers to their children. Head Start/Early Head Start helps parents meet their own goals while giving children a head start in life.


The Infant/Toddler Teacher prepares the classroom and curriculum for each day, greets the child and parent to ensure a welcome transition into the learning activities, documentation of children’s individual learning.  S/He is responsible for the completion of developmental assessments for all children and tracking of the child’s progress during the year.  S/He provides training and supervision to the Child Care Technicians and Caregivers.

Salary: $11.02 hourly


  1. Models appropriate language and behavior for children and parents in all situations
  2. Guides learning through discovery in the environment
  3. Utilizes curriculum for developing age appropriate activities
  4. Listens to the children and to the parent
  5. Shares learning activities of the children with the parents through home visits and classroom parent-teacher conferences
  6. Assesses children’s developmental levels of learning and plans activities in accordance with developmentally appropriate practices
  7. Works cooperatively with other staff to ensure that children’s needs are met outside the classroom. Assist in training of Child Care Technicians and Caregivers 
  8. May perform other duties as assigned to assure program standards are met


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field of study  plus one (1) year experience Early Childhood.
  • At least six (6) Higher educational classes in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related child educational classes and provide proof of completion
  • Must be proficient with computers (MS Office preferred)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle with liability insurance, and be willing to use vehicle for agency related travel
  • Must have current health and initial health examination within three months prior to employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills (Reading, Writing and Speaking)

Work/Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 40 lbs. from floor to chest
  • Constant standing, bending, and sitting for extended periods of time including repetitious movement
  • Must be able to work 40 hours a week (7:00a-3:30p)
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team at any location assigned with good attendance
