The Sustainability Waste Processor completes collection and transport of recyclables to campus collection sites, making regularly scheduled rounds on campus to pick up recyclable material from locations within buildings and transport these recyclables to the appropriate collection site for vendor pick-up.

Completes collection and transport of recyclables to campus collection sites. Once all materials are transported to the collection site(s), the materials will then be sorted into proper containers, such as white paper, mixed paper, aluminum, #1 plastic, and #2 plastic. This position requires learning proper differences in recyclable material. Picks up and transports recycling purges to the collection sites, ranging from small amounts of recyclables to large gaylords that can weight 1 ton or more, requiring the use of a pallet jack to move. Assists our recycling vendor, as needed.
Checks dumpsters daily for volume levels and any problems/issues arising at the locations. Makes daily rounds to check dumpsters on campus for volume levels, documenting current level, and reporting to the supervisor. Reports any abnormal condition or problem with dumpster/compactor locations, correcs any problems if appropriate, and reports any inappropriate material in the dumpsters or compactors.
Communicates proper sustainability practices to customers. Educates customers (staff, students, and visitors to UAMS) on proper sustainability practices on campus. These practices include, but not limited to, recycling, paper shredding, waste management, compactor operation, energy management, and any other sustainability issues which may arise. This education may be on the individual level, group level, or campus level.
Monitors recycling collection site levels, ensuring there will be needed space in the bins, and alerts the supervisor to any location that is currently full. Confirms all vendor hauls have been appropriately completed and reports any missed hauls to the supervisor.
Prepares new recycling bins for distribution, including cutting a slot in the lid for paper, cutting round holes for containers, properly labeling the bins, and distributing the bins to the proper location. Cleans and re-labels existing bins as needed.
Other duties as assigned, providing benefit to the Office of Sustainability, Engineering and Operations, Campus Operations, and the UAMS Campus.
This position is deemed essential and is present during inclement weather events.
High School diploma, or GED equivalent, plus one (1) year of experience in healthcare or regulatory environment required.
Ability to follow oral instruction, read and write. Must have good interpersonal communication skills. Ability to learn recycling knowledge. Self-starter, good attitude, professional nature and appearance. Must have excellent time management skills and be detail-oriented.
A valid, current Drivers License is required.
Two (2) - five (5) years of experience in a healthcare or regulatory environment.
