  • Overview

    The Research Assistant is responsible for the collection, processing, storage and analysis of bio specimens. Responsibilities will include processing and analyzing samples following specific protocols and maintaining documentation and accurate records of all analysis and activities.

    Salary: Negotiable

    Responsibilities

    1. Develops, modifies, and performs experimental procedures for use in the lab. 
    2. Analyzes results and compiles into report form. 
    3. Researches scientific literature and assists in the preparation of publications.
    4. Assists in lab administration (Inventories and orders supplies, negotiates discounts for supplies and equipment, assists with grant preparation and preparation of budgets, makes recommendations on the administration of the lab. Coordinates on call schedules for weekend sample processing)
    5. Trains new employees and instructs students.
    6. Laboratory Maintenance (restocking supplies, cleaning, wipe tests, maintenance of cell lines, equipment maintenance).
    7. Pick up, log, and process patient samples.  Perform laboratory experiments according to protocols developed for each experiment.  Determine and log results. 
    8. Setting up the assays (i.e. developing/optimizing immuoassays; ELISA with several hormones, Western blot for their receptors).
    9. Developing/optimizing RNA immunoprecipitation with me and performing realtime Reverse Transcription-PCR to measure particular gene expression levels.
    10. Assistant for Animal Surgery.
    11. Mouse Colony Maintenance.
    12. Genotyping.
    13. Cell sorting.
    14. Animal cell culture and testing drug effect by in vitro assays (cell proliferation assay and/or apoptosis assay).
    15. General laboratory manage (cleaning, organizing, ordering, etc).

    Qualifications

    Bachelor degree in Biology, Chemistry or other science field plus 3 years' experience in a research laboratory required.

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with tissue processing, sectioning and/or histology.
    • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certification.
