  • Overview

    The Research Technician works as part of a team within the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and is responsible for performing in vitro and in vivo experiments (tissue culture, protein purification, mouse necropsy, etc) and general laboratory maintenance (ordering supplies, laboratory cleaning and organizing, making stock solutions, dish washing, sterilization of reagents and supplies).

    Salary offered commensurate to experience.


    1. Performs and assists with experiments (i.e. cell culture, protein purification, animal experiments).
    2. Processes, analyzes and presents data.
    3. General laboratory maintenance includes:
      • Placing orders (obtaining quotes, filling and submitting ordering forms, tracking order status and receiving orders)
      • Maintaining records of laboratory inventories (reagents and supplies) and animal colonies
      • Maintenance of laboratory equipment and common spaces (incubators, shakers, water bath, pH meter, hoods and common lab benches)
      • Making stock solutions, dish washing and autoclaving 
      • Animal colony maintenance
    4. May perform other duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma/GED PLUS two (2) years of experience in a research laboratory
    • Basic knowledge of the equipment used in a research laboratory
    • Ability to keep organized laboratory records and notes
    • Basic computer skills (MS Office preferred)
    • Must be able to handle  and perform experiments involving laboratory animals


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences or related field with college level coursework in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology and/or cell biology.
    • Prior experience working with laboratory animals
