  • Overview

    The Director of Coding and Health Information Management oversees and directs the hospital and physician coding departments as well as the Health Information Management (HIM) department for the Integrated Clinical Enterprise (ICE). The Director of Coding & HIM demonstrates sound, responsive decision-making and problem-solving skills. The person should have the ability to address problems which are highly varied, complex, and often non-recurring, requiring gathering input from multiple sources to find innovative and creative solutions

    • Oversight of the following areas: Document Imaging, Deficiency Analysis, Incomplete Records, Transcription, Release of Information, Cancer Registry, Ambulatory Clinic Coding, Hospital Coding, & Physician Coding. 
    • Ensuring the completeness, integrity, and availability of the medical record
    • Accurate coding for hospital and physician services within ICE
    • Development, maintenance and enforcement of Coding and HIM policies and procedures
    • Monitoring local and national trends in healthcare delivery, and changes in legislation and accreditation standards related to coding and health information management
    • Providing education and training to UAMS employees in areas related to coding and HIM policies and procedures
    • Serves as an internal consultant on coding and health information management issues
    • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements related to coding, documentation, record keeping, privacy, and billing as establish by ICE Administration, Medical Staff and external regulatory and accreditation agencies.
    • Coordination of Medical Record Committee



    Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration or related field plus 10 years’ experience in HIM/Coding at the manager or director level. RHIA certification required. Must have experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
