  • Overview

    The Service Line Administrative Director (SLAD) is an integral part of the Service Line (SL) Leadership Triad working closely with the SL Medical Director and SL Nursing Director to support the mission and vision of the institution, jointly set and ensure strategic direction of the Service Line, facilitate quality, patient and family-centered care, outcomes including patient satisfaction, balanced score card performance and conformance with professional practices, accreditation, regulations and institutional policy. The SLAD has broad leadership responsibilities for business development and strategic growth of the Service line, operations, personnel management, budget development, revenue cycle and fiscal management, and serves as the primary liaison to centralized campus functions. The SLAD reports to the SL Director and is responsible for fostering provider relationships and ensuring all provider activities including operations, efficient throughput of patient volumes and other activities are maximized. The role of the SLAD is to provide leadership and facilitate horizontal collaboration, communication and to fully support interdisciplinary and team performance. The SLAD supports evidence-informed practices and ensures adequate and efficient use of resources. The SLAD will ensure that clinical operations including clinical research operations and clinical education are efficient, integrated and highly oriented to providing a positive patient experience. The SLAD establishes supports and enhances relationships with all stakeholder groups, especially employees.

    Responsibilities

    1. The SLAD has a joint report to the Service Line Director, Department Chair, Medical Center COO and CFO. Additionally, there is a dotted line to the Dean’s Office COO and CFO. They also actively participate with the SL Administrative Council, ICE Department Directors Monthly Meeting and may be asked to represent all Service Line Administrators on other SL Councils.
    2. The SLAD also functions as the Department Administrator for the College of Medicine’s Department of Emergency Medicine.
    3. She/he is in the chief administrative authority role for that department, directing human resources, relations with faculty physicians, finance and budgeting, strategic planning, and department operations, as well as, acting as a representative of both the Department and College both within and outside UAMS.
    4. In helping to fulfill the mission of UAMS, She/he has administrative authority over the Department’s research, educational, clinical, and service operations and activities.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Healthcare Administration or related field plus 10 years of financial management experience OR Master's degree in Business, Finance, Healthcare or related field plus 8 years of financial management experience required.

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Strong interpersonal skills to work with multiple layers of staff across several disciplines.
    • Strong knowledge and understanding of academic healthcare trends and financial management of healthcare operations.
    • Ability to integrate information to establish business priorities, decisions and budgets.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Team player that is insightful and reads interpersonal relationships well.
    • Strong customer focus and seeks to provide service that exceed the expectations of primary and secondary customers.
    • Strong organizational skills and a commitment to accurate and timely data; good follow through and responsiveness.
    • High energy level with a sense of urgency; takes ownership.
    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including greater than 50 hours per week.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Advanced managerial degree (MBA/MHA or related degree).
    • 8 – 10 years of health care administration experience with a progressive health care organization (both inpatient and outpatient settings).
