    Position located in Fayetteville, AR


    The Communication Specialist serves as the liaison for all communication needs for the UAMS campus located in Northwest Arkansas and will facilitate and enhance partnerships between UAMS and local business and community organizations and other external stakeholders.  Coordinates approval of all internal and external communications materials through the Office of Communications & Marketing and Associate Vice Chancellor for NW Region.

    Salary:  Negotiable



    • Facilitate and enhance partnerships between UAMS and local business and community organizations and other external stakeholders including but not limited to the Northwest Arkansas Council, Chambers of Commerce, and Rotary Clubs.
    • Support board meetings including the UAMS Northwest Campus advisory board and the grant required advisory boards.
    • Prepare presentations, talking points, and speeches for Associate Vice Chancellor for the Northwest Arkansas Region.
    • Maintain and update UAMS Northwest Campus website and manage UAMS Northwest social media accounts in coordination with social media manager in UAMS Office of Communications & Marketing.
    • Work with UAMS Vice Chancellor of Communications and Associate Vice Chancellor of Communications to help create and implement communications plan for Northwest campus that enhances UAMS presence in Northwest Arkansas and surrounding region through paid and earned media opportunities.
    • Develop and maintain speaker’s bureau and expert commentators list for Northwest campus and work to position UAMS faculty in NWA as health experts for local media.
    • Other duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, political science/government, or related field with five (5) years of  experience in communications, public relations, media and/or marketing.
    • Ability to work under deadline pressure in a fast-paced environment
    • Social media management experience.
    • Experience in presentation writing as well as writing, editing and producing newsletters, press releases, fliers, brochures, advertising copy and other collateral materials.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Prior communications experience working at a college or university
    • Prior experience working as a member of the media
    • Experience working with health disparities or in minority communities
    • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite
