    Responsibilities

    • Perform experiments relating to bacterial cell wall biology and biochemistry.
    • He or she will be responsible for growth of bacteria, conduct research pertaining to virulence gene regulation by using molecular genetics and biochemistry methods including enzyme and protein assays, molecular genetic techniques, and DNA and plasmid preparation and transformation.
    • In addition, he or she will be involved in animal studies to assess the role of virulence regulation in staphylococcal pathogenesis.
    • Help write scientific manuscripts by supplying information pertaining to experiments undertaken as described.
    • Develop research programs that promote his/her independent research career.
    • Organize and oversee the daily operations of the laboratory, including: ordering supplies and small equipment, maintaining chemical inventories, entering computerized data, and performing routine chemical and radiation safety checks.
    • Help train graduate students, other postdoctoral researchers, and any temporary undergraduate students that enter the lab.
    • May perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree plus 5 years of laboratory experience OR Master's degree plus 3 years of laboratory experience OR Ph.D plus 1 year of laboratory experience required.
