  • Overview

    The Patient Representative is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing financial counseling services to patients and families, and screening patients to determine potential for Medicaid payer assistance.

    Responsibilities


    1. Manages all front office duties (i.e. scheduling patient visits, answering scheduling and billing questions, timely and accurate billing, collections for services rendered, and facilitating scheduling coordination and conflicts)

    2. Verifies insurance coverage; benefits; pre- and post-authorization requirements and obtains initial authorizations for new patients

    3. Plans, organizes and implements financial counseling services to patients and families

    4. Screens patients to determine potential for Medicaid payer assistance

    5. Assists patients with Medicaid applications, Hospital Discount applications, and FGP payment plans

    6. Maintains knowledge of community agencies and resources to facilitate appropriate referrals and identification of payment sponsorship

    7. Assists patients with establishing payment plans; collection of approved deposits and/or prior balances

    8. Performs specialized clinic functions including, but not limited to, training, quality review, representing the clinic on committees, and other special projects as directed by the manager and/or director

    9. May perform other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:



    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Healthcare or related field PLUS three (3) years of experience in patient registration, scheduling or billing in a health care environment OR High school diploma/GED PLUS seven (7) years of experience in patient registration, scheduling or billing in a health care environment

    • Basic proficiency with computers (MS Office preferred)


     


    Preferred Qualifications:



    • Knowledge in basic medical terminology

    • Knowledge of healthcare insurance eligibility

    • Must demonstrate competency in the job elements of the point of service

    • Must be able to function in a positive manner in a high volume environment with a professional attitude to ensure the highest level of customer service

    • High commitment to maintain consistent attendance required

    • Good communication skills

    • Computer (Microsoft Office Suite preferred) and basic keyboard skills

    • Excellent telephone etiquette skills

    • General knowledge of office machines including printers and scanners


    Work Environment/Physical Demands:



    • Workplace is a professional office/hospital/clinic environment and public with constant interruptions

    • Daily interactions with internal staff; patients; visitors; other departments; outside vendors, agencies and organizations; and prospective patients and family

    • Constant sitting and standing required

    • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. (9.07 kg) from floor to waist
