    **This position is a day shift including on-call shifts**


     


    Machine perfusion (MP) is a technique used in kidney deceased organ transplantation as a means of preserving the organs which are to be transplanted. To some degree, it emulates natural perfusion. It is an alternative to cold storage (CS). The transplant department will maintain trained personnel to support the transplant surgeons in kidney preservation/perfusion as well as to manage data coordination The Transplant Procedure Technician supports the on-going delivery of care as identified by the multi-disciplinary Patient Management Team.

    Responsibilities

    Machine Perfusion:


    Assist surgeons with kidney transplant perfusion. Maintain a thorough working knowledge of the equipment and supplies used for perfusion. Ensure equipment in working order, and/or ensure appropriate intervention done to repair machine. Operate the perfusion equipment with skill and monitor kidneys as required under the supervision of the surgeon. Assist the surgeons as required. Maintain supplies related to kidney perfusion. Ensure Transplant Administrator is aware of perfusion issues in a timely manner.
     


    Effective Communication:


    Track data and keep complete records related to organs and transplantation. Complete United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) required forms and ESRD Network 13 forms accurately, completely, and on time under the supervision of the Clinical Director. Retrieve data as requested by transplant team members and the Transplant Quality Manager for quality assurance purposes. Chart laboratory reports on post-transplant patients under the supervision of the post-transplant nurses and physicians with accuracy and timeliness. Participate in multidisciplinary team activities. Performs tasks and duties which do not require a licensed practitioner, professional judgment or intervention.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Anatomy and Physiology or related field OR High School diploma/GED plus 4 years of experience in patient care.
