  • Overview

    The Cloud Computing Senior System Administrator provides systems administration for a private cloud computing and storage infrastructure used by researchers.

     

    The Department of Biomedical Informatics, is a vibrant environment for research. DBMI hosts multiple NIH/NCI funded projects and provides biomedical informatics insights to the entire UAMS community. The expertise and research interests of DBMI faculty cover multiple key disciplines of Biomedical Informatics, including Imaging Informatics, Bioinformatics, Clinical Research Informatics, and Semantic Web technologies in the life sciences.

    Responsibilities

    • Performs system administration of DBMI virtual machines deployed in the VMware-based UAMS private and potentially also public clouds.
    • Performs maintenance of associated software environments including installation and configuration of open-source and commercial scientific applications.
    • Coordinates with the IT department to deploy and maintain hardware and /or cloud solutions for research scientific computing.
    • Uses system monitoring and reporting tools to ensure the maintainability, scalability and availability of infrastructure.
    • Provides support, installation and configuration assistance to researchers.
    • Provides systems administration in a Linux environment and an understanding of VMware virtualization tools and techniques.
    • May perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma/GED PLUS at least nine (9) years of experience in a Linux-based environment OR Bachelors degree PLUS five (5) years of experience in a Linux-based environment
    • Must possess advanced knowledge and understanding of Linux (REHL, CentOS or equivalent) server configurations including services (NGINX, Apache HTTPD, database engines, monitoring daemons, identity managers and domain controllers, etc.); system scripting such as Unix shells, Python or Bash; and knowledge and understanding of security and network protocols
    • Must be capable of contributing within a team environment and have an eagerness to learn new technologies

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Work or education experience with cluster file systems, scheduling, workflow and resource management tools (Moab/Maui/Torque)
    • Knowledge of installation of Windows Server OS on a virtual machine is a plus as is knowledge of the deployment of Docker or other container technologies
