  • Overview

     

    UAMS Head Start/Early Head Start currently serves 928 children at 16 sites throughout Pulaski County.  The program’s overall goal is to increase the social competence of children in low income families and children with disabilities, while improving the chances of success in school. Head Start/Early Head Start addresses the needs of the whole child including the educational, vocational and material needs of the entire family.  The program strives to enhance children’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development while enabling parents to be better caregivers and teachers to their children. Head Start/Early Head Start helps parents meet their own goals while giving children a head start in life.

     

    The Preschool (Infant/Toddler) Caregiver works in a team situation to provide daily care to Head Start/Early Head Start children, such as, welcome children, changes diapers and/or potty trains others. S/He prepares children for eating by insuring clean faces and hands and assisting children with feeding; supervises age appropriate activities with children and performs general duties, such as, disinfecting tables, changing tables, beds/cribs/cots, etc.

    Salary: $17,680 annually ($8.50 hourly)

    Responsibilities

    • Models appropriate language and behavior for children and parents in all situations.
    • Guides learning through discovery in the environment.
    • Utilizes curriculum for developing age appropriate activities.
    • Adheres to the Lesson Plan and class schedule as listed in the classroom.
    • Assesses children’s development levels of learning and plans activities in accordance with developmentally appropriate practices.
    • Works cooperatively with other staff to ensure that the children’s needs are met inside and outside the classroom.
    • Ensures that the learning environment is safe for Head Start/Early Head Start children.
    • May perform other duties as assigned. 

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma/GED plus at least six (6) months of child care experience
    • Current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Infant Toddler and/or Preschool OR must be willing to enroll in CDA Course

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bilingual English/Spanish (Speaking, Reading & Writing)
