  • Overview

    This faculty member will have primary responsibilities for conducting assessment in an outpatient setting with growing opportunity to assist with inpatient consults and the development of multidisciplinary evaluation teams at Arkansas Children’s Northwest. The Schmieding Developmental Center (SDC) provides specialized services to children from birth to 21 years of age with a strong focus on children with neurological disorders, cognitive disorders, genetic disorders, Autism, intellectual disability, chronic medical conditions and sports concussion. Candidates should be comfortable with all children ages 4 and up and willing to extend their skills downward to the evaluation of infants and toddlers.

    Responsibilities

    1. Provides appropriate cognitive, achievement and behavioral/emotional evaluations dependent on age and background information in an outpatient setting.
    2. This is largely children with neurodevelopmental disabilities and chronic medical conditions that complicate behavioral and emotional adjustment and parenting.
    3. The physician will also serve children with comorbidities or presumed routine childhood emotional and behavioral issues not responding to traditional treatment such as ADHD and Behavior disorders.
    4. Coordinates the review of all new patient intakes and scheduling. Meets with each clinician as needed and determines which referrals are inappropriate to the clinic.
    5. Writes reports detailing background information, behavioral observations, test scores/interpretation, impressions and recommendations within the required timeframe. Submits accurate billing on each child´s service date.
    6. Completes additional clinical and programmatic requests as directed including continuing education activities required by the professional licensure and training of new clinicians on the administration of various tasks.
    7. Abides by the code of ethics of the professional association.
    8. Abides by privacy/confidentiality rules.
    9. Demonstrates a cooperative relationship with program staff, DCFS staff and caregivers.  
    10. May perform other duties as assigned.    

      

    Qualifications

    The faculty position would be at a rank determined by years of experience. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in clinical psychology or PsyD from and APA approved program and post-doctoral training in developmental psychology, pediatric psychology, or neuropsychology. 

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Candidates with a specific interest in a younger age group and comfort with questions related to Autistic Spectrum Disorder are in this patient group are desired.
