    Schedule: Full-Time, 8:00am-4:30pm

     

    The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs patient care tasks and duties which do not require a license. PCT’ is a trained member of the unit based team who supports the on-going delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary patient management team in The Myeloma Institute (TMI)

     

    TMI is recognized both nationally and internationally for its leadership in the treatment of multiple myeloma and other cancers of the bone marrow responsive to stem cell transplantation. The myeloma program at UAMS is unique as it provides this highly specialized care in the Outpatient setting. Many of these patients, if seen elsewhere, would be admitted to an Inpatient unit, sometimes for periods of months. The program has provided over 10,000 stem cell transplants since its start. The TMI program includes a 30 bed Inpatient unit (F7 – Stem Cell Transplant), located in hospital, 7th floor, and an Outpatient Infusion and Transplant Clinic located on the 4th floor of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute.

    Responsibilities

    The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a trained member of the unit based team who supports the on-going delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary Patient Management Team. The PCT works under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse(s). and performs tasks and duties which do not require a license, professional judgment or intervention. The PCT must pass the required competencies. The PCT works within the Department of Nursing standards. The PCT adheres to UAMS clinical programs, policies, procedures and standards and guest care guidelines.

    • Obtains patient report and has on-going communication with R.N. regarding patient care/changes in condition; Informs nurse of patient requests or complaints.
    • Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
    • Transports patients to other areas of the hospital as directed.
    • Carries out the Plan of Care for Patient using a Multidisciplinary Approach as Delegated by Team Leader.
    • Communicates effectively with other team members to facilitate patient care.
    • Accepts directions from R.N.s and team members.
    • Follows through on delegated patient care activities.
    • Provides appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures and assists patients with activities (ambulation, up in chair, turn and reposition).
    • Documents all patient care activities/tasks, vital signs, ADL, wave tests, I&O's accurately and timely and per unit and department standards.
    • Assists patients and visitors with information and/or solutions to problems.
    • Serves as resources person to support department members in performance of duties.
    • Notifies appropriate staff members of problems requiring prompt intervention.
    • May perform other duties as assigned.

    SALARY:
    Hourly Rate Range - $11.36--$12.68 ($23,629--$26,374 annually)
    Shift Differential - 14%
    Weekend Differential - 10%

    Qualifications

    Required:  High School Diploma/GED, CPR Certification (BCLS) within 3 months of hire, successful completion of patient care technician course within 3 months of hire.  Must have excellent communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability. Must be able to lift 100 lbs. to waist height.

     

    Preferred:  Certification as a nursing assistant or military corpsman, Patient care experience in acute care setting.

    All new Patient Care Technicians are required to complete 5 weeks of training Monday - Friday 8:00AM - 5:00PM after being hired.
