  • Overview

    The Blackboard System Administrator Analyst provides administrative and configuration functions for design and operation of the Blackboard learning management system.  S/He works with the eLearning team and Blackboard corporate office on the integration of Blackboard with the UAMS Student Information System. The Admin collaborates with R25 Scheduling team to facilitate integration of 25Live, SIS, and Blackboard Course Shells; and assists in configuration of GoSignMeUp for BB shells and communities.

    Responsibilities

    1. Provides administrative and configuration functions for design and operation of Blackboard.
    2. Participates with other team members to evaluate options for configuration and define related provisions and processes to ensure effective use of Blackboard.
    3. Carries out defined application administration processes.
    4. Tests patches, upgrades, and new versions of software.
    5. Assists faculty, support staff, and Blackboard and eLearning tool vendors (Building Blocks and LTI integrations) with investigating and correcting problems.
    6. Coordinates communications between UAMS support staff and the Behind the Blackboard support unit for identification and resolution of problems, scheduling of planned outages and execution of other processes, assessment and planning for performance and storage provisions, and other issues.
    7. Creates/reviews technical support resources for end users.
    8. Maintains processes to create and populate course shells for GoSignMeUp and degree programs and special initiatives such as Interprofessional Education.
    9. Provides support to the integration of Blackboard Learn with the PeopleSoft SIS in collaboration with Registrars and Colleges.
    10. Maintains knowledge of Microsoft SQL in joining reports in Analytics and the SIS.
    11. Collaborates with Teaching and Learning Support Scheduling team to facilitate integration of 25Live with SIS and BB course shells  
    12. Participates in collaborative teams to evaluate the need for new educational software technology tools, the selection of such tools, and the planning for testing, implementation and support of tools.
    13. Serves as part of eLearning team to assist and support faculty and students in use of eLearning tools in the classroom and presentations.
    14. Recommends and participates in technical discussion forums, conferences, webinars, websites and training to maintain and advance knowledge and skills.
    15. May perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors Degree in Information Technology, Learning Technology or Related Field OR High School Diploma/GED plus 4 years of Information Technology experience, which includes 2 years of experience with any of the following:
      • Administration/technical support of the Blackboard learning management system
      • Supporting educational technology and online learning resources
      • Experience with SIS and LMS interaction or integration (inclusive)
    • Advanced proficiency level with computers particularly with Microsoft Office Suite and SQL
