    The Pharmacy I - PRN Specialty Pharmacy works on-line as a pharmacist to help with the day to day operations of the Specialty Pharmacy Service including patient clinical assessments, patient outreach, medication management, prior authorizations, patient monitoring and distribution.  Specialties include multiple sclerosis, oncology, hepatitis, inflammatory diseases, infectious diseases, cystic fibrosis and transplant. The person in this position will help supervise the project coordinators and students, provide clinical information to providers and support the clinic pharmacy specialists.

     

    Salary offered commensurate with experience

    Responsibilities

    • Reviews physicians' orders/prescriptions for appropriateness of therapy, drug interactions, allergies, correct dosing, etc.  After review, enters/verifies physicians' orders/prescriptions in a timely and accurate manner. 
    • Provides pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals; counsels patients on drug therapies and provides injection training.
    • Oversees project coordinators and student workers so that department work is accurately and quickly done. 
    • Maintains appropriate behavior in techs & students or reports violations to Supervisor. 
    • Processes STAT/NOW orders as soon as possible, and expedites delivery.
    • Fulfills Lead Pharmacist's duties when assigned.
    • Uses equipment as instructed, troubleshoots when needed, & reports malfunctions appropriately. 
    • Answers phone calls & provides drug information appropriately.  Documents all interactions in the electronic medical record. 
    • Fixes, rather than ignores, drug delivery problems. 
    • Trains students/new employees adequately & courteously. 
    • Signs out, dispenses, etc. investigational drugs accurately.
    • Prioritizes the workload and making sure that the project coordinator(s) and student(s) perform work in the order that best accommodates the workload. 
    • Completes any task at hand and to work alongside all other staff members to demonstrate the ability to complete work in a timely and accurate manner, while sharing the workload appropriately.  
    • After appropriate training:  Insures all patients have been appropriately screened prior to initiation of therapy. 
    • Communicates with providers any recommended testing prior to therapy. 
    • Communicates with provider all recommended monitoring for each specific therapy. 
    • Responds to project coordinators request for clinical assistance in a timely manner. 
    • Monitors lab work and manages patient side effects and acts as a liaison between the patient and the clinic.  
    • Adheres to UAMS patient safety plan and UAMS code of conduct.
    • Adheres to Clinical Programs and Department policies.  
    • Other Duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy
    • 1 year experience working as a pharmacist in retail or hospital setting.
    • Certification as a licensed Registered Pharmacist by the State of Arkansas or eligible for Arkansas licensure.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Pharm.D
