  • Overview

    The Senior Director of Development provides direction and coordination of fund raising initiatives across the campus and state. Her/his focus will be high level relationships with the University’s benefactors and prospects. Under the direction of the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Development (SAVC), the Senior Director will work with leaders across the University to secure major and principal level gifts.

    Salary:  Negotiable


    • Strategizes, plans and solicits gifts in excess of $50,000.
    • Manages an ongoing portfolio of 100 prospects and donors.
    • Successfully engages with donors in cultivation, solicitation and stewardship demonstrated through attainment of monthly and annual metrics for in person contacts, proposals and funds generated.
    • Works closely with major gift colleagues to develop principal gift level moves management strategies culminating in seven figure plus solicitations.
    • Works with UAMS and unit leadership to identify programs for which private funds can be raised, to identify potential sources of private gift support and to recommend appropriate strategies to secure major gifts.
    • Provides assistance to leadership and other staff members in identifying, recruiting, training, and motivating volunteers to assist in the identification and solicitation of major gift prospects.
    • Strategizes with and accompany University leaders and/or volunteers on cultivation and solicitation calls.
    • Secures written proposals and briefing materials for major gift solicitations personalized for donor interest.
    • Provides direction and supervision to development and advancement staff as appropriate.
    • Develop and implement an annual work plan with measurable objectives and courses of action for all relevant activities.
    • Under direction of SAVC and the Director/Dean of the College/Institute, facilitates volunteer board and additional community volunteers.
    • Engages with Director of Corporations and Foundations to seek institutional support for
      UAMS philanthropic initiatives. 
    • In partnership with the Executive Director of Planned Giving, cultivate, close and steward planned gifts.
    • Seeks consultation on major gift proposals and all gift agreements with the Senior Assistant Vice Chancellor for Development Administration.
    • Works with the members of Institutional Advancement, unit leaders and development staff to assure that potential gift prospects are properly researched and assigned.
    • Coordinates & completes all solicitations and that donors receive appropriate acknowledgements & recognition.
    • Maintains confidentiality of donor information.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree with a major in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or a related field plus Six (6) years of fund-raising or related experience, preferably in raising major gifts in an educational, research or health care setting.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master’s Degree in communications, public relations, marketing or related field plus Four (4) years of fund-raising or related experience.
    • CFRE.
