  • Overview

    The Research Associate (RA) will work under direct supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) to conduct ongoing research projects. These projects involve both cell culture and animal (rodent) experiments. It is expected that the RA will make significant
    contributions to experimental design/troubleshooting, data analysis, interpretation of results, and presentation of
    findings. In coordination with other members of the lab, s/he will be responsible for keeping accurate and detailed
    lab records and maintaining an organized lab space that promotes research productivity.

     

    Salary: Negotiable

     

    This is a provisional position. Provisional positions are funded by external grants or contracts with established end dates. When the grant expires or is not extended, the provisional position will be eliminated. Employees in provisional positions may apply for other positions at UAMS when their provisional position ends.

    Responsibilities

    • Manages day-to-day planning and troubleshooting of cell culture and animal studies in order to achieve
      project goals.
    • When issues arise, works with the PI to adjust project strategy.
    • Preparation of DNA constructs for cell and animal modification using standard molecular biology
      techniques.
    • Performs cell culture and analysis involving rodent and human skeletal cell populations.
    • Performs standard molecular biology assays (e.g., qRT-PCR; Western blot; reporter assays) and skeletal
      phenotyping techniques (e.g., micro-computed tomography; histology; immunostaining) of cell culture or
      animal tissue samples.
    • Along with the PI, prepares manuscripts and conference abstracts describing study findings.
    • Presents project findings at lab meetings, Division meetings, and internal/external scientific conferences.
    • Along with the PI, provides day-to-day mentorship of students rotating through the laboratory.
    • Routinely reviews the literature to keep up-to-date with current advances in the field.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Biology or related filed plus 5 years of research experience required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.  Animal experience preferred.
