Work Schedule: 7am to 3:30pm (40 hours) per week
The Preschool Teacher for Head Start directs the daily learning activities of students through the use age appropriate lesson plans. S/He creates and maintains an atmosphere conducive to learning, both through physical classroom materials and instructional activities. S/He implements approved regular goals while utilizing techniques necessary to motivate learning in small children and makes regular assessments of instructional materials for classroom and communicates need of replacement or repair as needed. S/He supervises students in all activities both inside and outside the classroom and maintains 1-10 child/staff ratio at all times.
The Preschool Teacher assists with counseling of parents for their academic, personal and social skills development. S/He ensures that everything is in place in case of your absence; identifies achievement levels of each student and provides ongoing evaluation of progress. S/He identifies and accesses behavioral concerns requiring involvement of program resource staff and establishes and maintains continuous communication between parents and staff. S/He encourages parent involvement to increase literacy skills and classroom participation. S/he becomes thoroughly knowledgeable of all required program standards and regulations and adhere to same and participates in school sponsored activities; and attends faculty staff meeting as required.

This is a provisional position. Provisional positions are funded by external grants or contracts with established end dates. When the grant expires or is not extended, the provisional position will be eliminated. Employees in provisional positions may apply for other positions at UAMS when their provisional position ends.
