  • Overview

    The Medical Laboratory Scientist I performs and analyze tests on blood and body fluids.  The MLS I prepares samples for testing, maintains automated and specialized equipment, interprets results and reports the results.  Maintains inventory and documentation.

    Responsibilities

    Specimen Processing:

    • Performs all standard tests for the section.
    • Receives patient specimens, orders appropriate test for the request and documents all results

    Maintaining Equipment:

    • Performs scheduled equipment maintenance as required
    • Performs daily, weekly and monthly quality controls and advanced troubleshooting
    • Documents as per established procedure

    Continuing Education:

    • Learns new procedures as new tests are brought in house.
    • Attends training workshops and seminars - when available
    • Participates in CAP proficiency surveys
    • Reviews the final critic from the CAP to improve technical skills

    Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Biological Science, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Technology
    • ASCP certification or eligible for certification (Must obtain certification within 12 months of hire date)
