     **This a temporary position that will fill another vacancy**


    Dental Hygienist provides patient care and clinical support for the Center for Dental Education, Oral Health Clinic.

    Salary:   Commensurate with experience


    • Perform oral health care assessments that include obtaining and reviewing patient health histories, taking/recording blood pressure and other vital signs, complete dental charting, oral cancer screening, and comprehensive periodontal assessment.
    • Expose, process, and interpret dental radiographs.
    • Perform routine oral prophylaxes and nonsurgical periodontal therapy.
    • Administer local anesthesia and/or nitrous oxide/oxygen analgesia (if licensed for these expanded functions) placement of locally-delivered antimicrobials
    • Remove plaque and calculus —soft and hard deposits—from above and below the gumline.
    • Apply cavity-preventive agents, such as topical fluorides and sealants to the teeth.
    • Educate patients proper oral hygiene techniques to maintain good oral health.
    • Counsel patients about plaque control and developing individualized at-home oral hygiene programs.
    • Counsel patients on the importance of good nutrition for maintaining optimal oral health.
    • Take alginate impressions, pour & trim study models, and fabricate custom trays and mouthguards/biteguards.
    • Perform appropriate treatment documentation in the electronic record.
    • Maintain a recall/recare system for dental hygiene patients in the clinic.
    • Supervise an in-office whitening program.
    • Supervise dental hygiene students during clinical rotations to the clinic.
    • Assist with clinic business administration, as needed (answer telephone/return calls, insurance verification, schedule appointments, check-in and walk-out patients, and other administrative tasks as assigned).
    • Maintain inventory control of all necessary hygiene supplies, and arrange for all restocking orders through the dental assistant and front desk assistant.
    • Observe and makes recommendations regarding inventory usage ensuring that supplies are being used effectively and efficiently to reduce waste.
    • Research innovative dental products and makes recommendations to the dentist toward expanding and improving services that would be beneficial to practice hygiene program.
    • Perform daily maintenance of all dental operatory equipment utilized in the performance of dental hygiene procedures, including dental chair and unit, ultrasonic units, hand pieces, hand instruments, jet polishing unit, and vacuum system.
    • Reports malfunction in equipment to appropriate personnel for repair.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Must be a graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program.
    • Must possess working knowledge of Current Dental Terminology (CDT) codes, OSHA regulations and the Arkansas Dental Practice Act. 
    • Must be licensed in the State of Arkansas as a registered Dental Hygienist or be eligible for licensure.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Dental Hygiene.
    • Proficiency with dental practice management software (such as EagleSoft) and MS Office (Outlook and Word).
    • Experience in front desk management in a dental environment is desirable (scheduling patients, working recall, filing insurance claims, etc.).
    • Experience as a dental assistant.
    • State of Arkansas local anesthesia permit.
