  • Overview

    The Database Manager reports to the Executive Director of Advancement Services.  The Database Manager designs, develops and modifies procedures and software for the Institutional Advancement information systems in order to produce general and specialized reports and statistical data.  Expected to perform project tasks such as software development, software implementation, application maintenance, application troubleshooting, software upgrades, software testing, and custom report writing.

    Salary offered commensurate with experience



    • Participates in the ongoing activities associated with the information systems utilized in Institutional Advancement to include designing, developing, and maintaining reports and applications to produce general and specialized reports, correspondence and statistical data.
    • Utilizes various report writing tools to extract data from the Institutional Advancement database for research and reporting activities. 
    • Designs and develops programs for systematic retrieval of data.
    • Produces routine (weekly, monthly and annual) specialized reports and generate data files.
    • Responsible for mass loading of data into Advance database.
    • Serves as a resource to system users and provide technical assistance, training, troubleshooting, and documentation.
    • Serve as a liaison with Information Technology Services in explaining, resolving and communicating system problems/and or solutions.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related field.
    • Five (5) years’ experience in report writing and /or database management . 
    • Proven programming experience in one or more programming languages is required.
    • Three (3) years of experience Visual Basic
    • Some experience in one or more of the following: C#, Visual Studio, Crystal Reports, PHP, ASP, or other web-based programming language.
    • One (1) year of relational database experience in Postgresql, MySQL, Microsoft SQL or Oracle.
    • Client/Server programming, Internet application programming required

    Knowledge and skills:

    • Excellent skills with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, and Outlook required. 
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Ability to analyze user needs and translate into reports.
    • Excellent customer support, interpersonal and communication skills and dedication to a team approach. 
    • Ability to communicate clearly with staff and management. 
    • Demonstrates high level of integrity and innovative thinking and actively contributes to the success of the institution.  
    • Adheres to all UAMS policies and procedures. 
    • Willingness to participate as an active member of the Advancement Services team.

    Preferred Qualifications: 

    • Experience working in Web/Grid Services.
    • Experience with Advance and iModules.
