  • Overview

    The Histotechnician / Histotechnologist is responsible for processing, embedding, cutting and staining surgical specimens (routine and special stains). The immunohistochemistry lab and hospital are CAP and JCAHO accredited.

    Salary: Commensurate with experience

    Responsibilities

    • Embedding and cutting thin paraffin sections and mounting on slides.
    • Performing routine stains or special histochemical stains on the paraffin slides manually or utilizing automated stainers.          
    • Preparing and performing special histochemical staining procedures on smears of fresh samples.
    • Performs computer data entry, enters patient billing codes, prints patient labels 
    • Perform machine maintenance; Troubleshooting problems.
    • Run, review and document QC and QA; Running CAP Surveys
    • Teaching students                                           
    • Filing; Restocking supplies; Writing and revising procedure manuals
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications: 

    • High School diploma or GED equivalent
    • Certified as (ASCP) HT or HTL or eligible
    • Computer Literacy Required

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in hospital setting
