  • Overview

    This position is an evening shift (typically 4pm- 12am with rotating weekend/holiday and call shifts)

     

    The HLA Medical Laboratory Scientist I works under direction of the Supervisor or designee and is responsible for performing high complexity flow cytometric crossmatching, Luminex based HLA antibody identification, patient and donor HLA typing via PCR based methods, and QC/QA procedures as mandated by ASHI , UNOS and CAP criteria for an accredited Histocompatibility Laboratory. The Medical Laboratory Scientist I performs high complexity DNA testing and assists the section supervisor in maintaining the HLA lab's QC/QA protocol.

    Responsibilities

    • Consults transplant coordinators about patient and donor HLA results and/or problems.
    • Performs technical projects as assigned by supervisor.
    • Interacts frequently with section technologists, supervisor or designee, Manager, and HLA Director through fulfillment of duties.
    • Coordinates with other laboratory and hospital staff to insure the proper specimen acquisition, testing, and reporting of patient results. 
    • Teaches Medical Technology students in their HLA rotation.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Biological Science, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Technology.
    • ASCP certification or eligible for certification (Must obtain certification within 12 months of hire date).
    • CHT(ABHI) certification must be obtained after one year of experience regardless of degree.
