    The Allergy and Immunology Pharmacy Specialist assists patients with their medication therapy management by counseling on critical factors that include: dosage, duration, conditions, adverse events, drug interactions, monitoring parameters.  S/He obtains prior authorizations/appeals and navigates third party prior authorization processes successfully.

    Responsibilities

    • Performs the duties of a pharmacist working in a specialty pharmacy in compliance with policy and state/federal regulations.
    • Acts as supervising pharmacist as needed.
    • Works in cooperation and a professional manner with all other pharmacy departments and providers in assigned clinic.
    • Maintains distributive and clinical competency in compliance with policy and sufficient to meet pharmacy standards for patient safety and effective therapy, including clinical monitoring, assessments, adherence and compliance; dispenses and performs clinical activities to these standards.
    • Obtains prior authorizations/appeals and navigate third party prior authorization processes successfully
    • Reviews drug-to-drug interactions and manages patient medication regimen accordingly.
    • Supervises pharmacy support personnel, which includes activities performed, work allocation between staff, and work performance (quality and quantity of work).
    • Provides direct supervision to pharmacy interns and pharmacy technicians working with the pharmacist. 
    • Implements policy and regulatory required record systems and processes for the pharmacy.
    • Maintains compliance to company formulary.
    • Practices the concept of clean claims through compliance to proper pharmacy billing procedures.
    • Participates in the pharmacy on call rotation, as applicable.
    • Supervises and trains employees, students and residents to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
    • Skills in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures; developing and implementing new strategies and procedures (performance improvement) including best practices.
    • Develops and maintains record keeping systems and procedures.
    • Maintains compliance to URAC accreditation standards.
    • May perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy PLUS one (1) year of experience working in a pharmacy environment
    • Current, unrestricted pharmacist license in state of practice

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • PharmD
