  • Overview

    The Executive Director of Emergency Management is responsible for planning, developing and coordinating the operations of UAMS’s emergency management program; seeking, obtaining and administering grants from various agencies; and coordinating UAMS’s emergency response planning activities with those of the County, State and Federal governments, cities, special districts, and other emergency services organizations. In addition, this position will prepare and present emergency response training programs.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensures that UAMS Emergency Preparedness policies and procedures are in place, current and in compliance with all local, state, and Federal Emergency Response Plans and guidelines.
    • Improves UAMS's emergency response coordination with outside officials and external agencies.
    • Ensures that the emergency response plans can be operationalized as envisioned.
    • Reviews and recommends any changes in allocation of emergency planning/response responsibilities among departments.
    • Identifies and assists in submissions of pertinent grant proposals related to emergency preparedness to state, local or Federal agencies and manage the expenditures from grants accounts awarded to UAMS with approval of Administration.
    • Coordinates regular exercises to improve partnerships among UAMS departments with emergency response responsibilities and collaboration with municipal, state, regional, and federal agencies.
    • Implements outstanding action steps derived from 'lessons learned'. These may include drill/exercise documentation, evaluations and after action reports/critiques.
    • Keeps all medical screenings and other pertinent documentation related to the fitness of decontamination team members current.
    • Participates in the development and implementation of the goals, objectives, and priorities of the UAMS Emergency Management Program.
    • Recommends and implements resulting policies and procedures relating to emergency management.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications: 

    • Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Business, Healthcare, Administration or related field, plus three years of progressive emergency management services; including one year of supervisory experience
    • Must obtain NIMS Certification within one year of employment

    Preferred Qualifications: 

    • Experience in hospital setting, including experience with hospital evacuation, decontamination experience
    • Strategic planning skills and expertise in Supply Chain Management and clinical operations
    • TJC Requirements & working with public agencies
    • NIMS Certification
