    The High Performance Computing (HPC) Cloud Computing System Administrator provides cluster and systems administration for an HPC system and private cloud computing infrastructure used by researchers. 


    The position is housed in the Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI), a vibrant environment for research. DBMI hosts multiple NIH/NCI funded projects and provides biomedical informatics insights to the entire UAMS community. The expertise and research interests of DBMI faculty cover multiple key disciplines of Biomedical Informatics, including Imaging Informatics, Bioinformatics, Clinical Research Informatics, and Semantic Web technologies in the life sciences.

    Salary offered commensurate with experience.


    • Performs maintenance of associated software environments including installation and configuration of open-source and commercial scientific applications.
    • Coordinates with the IT department to deploy and maintain hardware and storage solutions for research scientific computing.
    • Uses system monitoring and reporting tools to ensure the maintainability, scalability and availability of infrastructure.
    • Works with other staff to assist in training, support, installation and configuration assistance to researchers.
    • Provides systems administration for a private cloud computing and storage infrastructure used by researchers including installation of hypervisors (VMware), creation of OS images and VM creation and management.
    • May perform other duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree  in Computer Science or related field of study plus five (5) years of IT system administration experience in a large, complex environment with two (2) years supporting Linux and two (2) years supporting storage area networks OR a High School Diploma/GED plus nine (9) years of IT system administration experience in a large, complex environment with two (2) years supporting Linux and two (2) years supporting storage area networks

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • MS or PhD in Computer Science or related field of study
    • Work or education experience in an HPC environment, especially with cluster file systems, scheduling, workflow and resource management tools (Moab/Maui/Torque), and experience with Singularity/Docker container technology is highly desired
    • Knowledge of parallel computing techniques (multi-threading, MPI) and GPU computing with ability to help researchers optimize software for this type of computing environment is a plus
