  • Overview

    The Telemedicine Specialist-Network Engineering position is responsible for supporting and monitoring the UAMS e-Link Network environment which includes but is not limited to: Networking equipment from Brocade, HP, Juniper, Cisco, and Meraki; networking software from Brocade, HP, Checkpoint, InMon, Zabbix, Meraki, and others. S/He is responsible for working with all areas of UAMS IT, all UAMS e-Link sites and member sites, and the entire campus to ensure maximum network uptime - both local and wide area networks.  This position participates in a group on-call rotation where each member of the group takes calls for one (1) week at a time.

    Responsibilities

    Analysis and Design – Hardware and software

    • Performs assessment of the UAMS e-Link Network for efficiencies, cost savings, security, and quality improvements (including all WAN and LAN devices as well as client devices and protocols).
    • Designs and manages of work plans that enable UAMS e-Link to keep all related service level agreements.
    • Designs work plans that will keep Network equipment and software up-to-date.
    • Designs work plans for networking equipment, wired jack locations, wireless Access Points, and networked devices, as needed to assist in design of new systems and services offer by UAMS e-Link.
    • Tests vendor supplied updates and service packs.
    • Performs assessment of software tools that will enable UAMS e-Link to provide quicker more reliable services.
    • Performs assessment of emerging technologies that will enhance the UAMS e-Link offerings.
    • Selects appropriate technologies for UAMS e-Link.
    • Recommends technology standards appropriate for the UAMS e-Link.

    Systems Support and maintenance

    • Ensures timely update of Network hardware and software to new Service packs, patches, etc.
    • Assists with resolution of user defined problems with production systems and/or production equipment.
    • Monitors performance of production systems. Ensures automated monitoring of systems when possible.
    • Performs installation and/or activation of networking equipment across e-Link WAN and LAN.
    • Updates all drawing as changes and/or additions are made to productions systems.
    • Maintains IP assignments.
    • Updates hardware and software inventory and version control information as items are change.
    • Communicates to all UAMS e-Link members concerning system maintenance and/or downtime.

    WAN Circuit Support

    • Assists with resolution of problems with connectivity and works with the appropriate circuit vendor to resolve problems.
    • Monitors performance of WAN circuits and connectivity and report against vendor SLA agreements.

    WAN Circuit Evaluation and Planning

    • Performs assessment of existing data circuits in the area of circuit quality, down times, and bandwidth.
    • Recommends appropriate existing data circuit bandwidth as customer needs change.
    • Performs assessment of existing circuit or new circuit needs & costs with recommendation of appropriate sizing of bandwidth, appropriate technical delivery mechanisms, and vendor selection to best balance needs and costs.

    May perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma/GED PLUS nine (9) years of Networking experience support (Brocade, Cisco, Juniper, Nortel, HP, 3Com, etc.) with three (3) years of experience in Video Conferencing equipment and protocols (SIP, H323, WebRTC) OR Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field of study PLUS five (5) years of Networking experience support (Brocade, Cisco, Juniper, Nortel, HP, 3Com, etc.) with one (1) year of experience in Video Conferencing equipment and protocols (SIP, H323, WebRTC)
    • WAN design and management experience
    • IT project management experience
    • Cisco CCIE, Brocade BCNE, or equivalent
    • WAN, SDWAN, switching and routing. SIP, H323, WebRTC

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • CTS-I, CTS-D, CTS, Cisco CCNA Collaboration
