  • Overview

    The Director of Program Development will serve in the area of research administration within the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute (WPRCI). This position will lead implementation and evaluation of strategic directives and is a critical member of the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) team. The position will be responsible for establishing systems and programs and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure that the WPRCI research infrastructure is in alignment with NCI guidelines for an NCI-Designated Cancer Center as defined through the CCSG guidelines. Evaluation of ongoing and newly established components, programs and procedures is an essential component of maintaining CCSG competitiveness, and this position will plan and conduct evaluation activities and follow up. This position will work closely with WPRCI leaders and teams to develop essential documents, programs and processes. Attendance at 1-3 national meetings annually is required to stay current with CCSG guidelines and best practices at NCI-designated cancer centers.

    • Works closely with WPRCI senior leaders to identify research infrastructure needs and solutions.
    • Leads development and implementation of solutions as needed.
    • Works closely with WPRCI senior leaders to identify evaluation needs and opportunities.
    • Leads development of evaluation tools, implementation of them and analysis of results, leading to follow-up action plan development.
    • Documents research infrastructure programs, processes and evaluations in accordance with CCSG guidelines and supporting materials.
      • Documentation materials would include, but are not limited to SOPs, guidelines, policies, processes, workflows, annual reports and internal guidance documents.
    • Lead internal communications regarding facilitation of research collaborations and promotion of the awareness of research funding opportunities among WPRCI membership.
      • These activities would include direct interaction with researchers as well as broader distribution of information through internal communication channels (eg. email, newsletters, etc.)


    Minimum Qualifications: 

    • Master Degree in Business, Science or Technology plus 6 years administrative experience including technical writing and research administration experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Business, Science or Technology plus 8 years administrative experience including technical writing and research administration experience.
    • Experience in Microsoft Word, Adobe Professional, Power Point, Excel.
    • Computer program proficiency level: Advanced.
    • Experience writing Standard Operating Procedures.

    Preferred Qualifications: 

    • 5 years Research Administration experience. 
    • 5 years Technical Writing experience. 
    • Experience in biomedical research, cancer research, clinical research.
    • Experience with strategic planning, experience evaluating projects/programs.
    • Experience with the NCI Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG).
