  • Overview

    The Telemedicine Specialist supports and monitors the UAMS TeleSANE Program within Institutional Distance Health Initiative (IDHI), which includes but is not limited to: Networking equipment from Brocade, HP, Juniper, Cisco, and Meraki; networking software from Brocade, HP, Checkpoint, InMon, Zabbix, Meraki, and others; video and collaboration infrastructure from Cisco, Polycom, Acano, PexIP, Zoom, and more; telemedicine Peripheral devices, such as USB and Wireless exam cameras, specialty scopes and optics, live streaming stethoscopes, RPM devices, and more. S/He also works with all areas of UAMS IT, all UAMS e-Link sites and member sites to ensure maximum services uptime and keeps up-to-date on emerging technologies that would benefit the TeleSANE Program and compliment UAMS’ mission/goals. This position participates in a group where each member is in an on-call rotation for one (1) week [24 hours a day, 7 days a week] several times a year.

    Responsibilities

    Analysis and Design (hardware and software):

    • Works with vendors and customers to evaluate and design new technologies.
    • Develops and implements work plans that will enable this department to meet and exceed all SLAs.
    • Develops and implements work plans for Digital Health equipment deployment and maintenance.
    • Responsible for the assessment of Telemedicine and Digital Health system requirements; and the design of work plans that will keep technologies and software up-to-date.
    • Responsible for testing of vendor supplied updates and service packs; and testing and piloting of potential new equipment.
    • Designs application capabilities and configuration options to meet customer’s needs; designs work plans to ensure proper scheduling of Telemedicine Digital Health equipment.

    Systems Support and Maintenance:

    • Supports video equipment and peripherals including but not limited to computers, general exam cameras, stethoscopes, and wireless microphones.
    • Ensures timely update of hardware and software to new service packs, patches, etc.
    • Monitors Statewide Telehealth Network and critical equipment relying on the operation of the network.
    • Monitors performance of production systems to ensure automated monitoring of production systems when possible.
    • Responsible for the installation and/or activation of Telemedicine and Digital Health equipment and software; Tier I and II phone support of video and network equipment, including peripherals of UAMS and partner programs.
    • Provides onsite support of Telemedicine, Digital Health and network equipment related to UAMS and partner programs.
    • Provides written and verbal communication with UAMS departments, vendors and partners concerning project status, system maintenance and/or downtime.
    • Tests new software updates.
    • Assists with Call Scheduling where required.
    • Assists with resolution of user defined problems with production systems and/or production equipment.
    • Supports UAMS IDHI Programs and Members (450+ and growing) that wish to utilize Telemedicine and Digital Heath Services.

    Technology Planning:

    • Responsible for the assessment and development of software tools that will enable more reliable services; the assessment of emerging technologies that will enhance the environment; and the assessment of emerging management needs.
    • Selects appropriate technologies and systems and recommends technology standards appropriate for the environment.
    • Coordinates across multiple hospital systems to facilitate implementations and upgrades.

    • Achieves and maintains appropriate certifications related to assigned application and/or role.

    May perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma/GED PLUS nine (9) years of IT and/or networking experience support (Brocade, Cisco, Juniper, Nortel, HP, 3Com, etc.) to include three (3) years of experience in Video Conferencing equipment support (Polycom, Cisco, Acano, PEXIP, RadVision, etc.) OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field PLUS five (5) years of IT and/or networking experience support (Brocade, Cisco, Juniper, Nortel, HP, 3Com, etc.) to include three (3) years of experience in Video Conferencing equipment support (Polycom, Cisco, Acano, PEXIP, RadVision, etc.)

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience using the following: Cisco CCIE, Brocade BCNE, CTS-I, CTS-D, CTS, Cisco CCNA Collaboration or equivalent; WAN, SDWAN, switching and routing. SIP, H323, WebRTC
    • WAN design and management experience
    • IT project management experience
