This position is located in Fayetteville, Arkansas

The Manager of Evaluation provides administrative leadership and supervisory oversight of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) evaluations. S/He directs staff to ensure highly customized and professionally research and evaluation reports for extramural funded grants and contracts based upon synthesizing and evaluating information gleaned from in-depth research and analysis. In- and out-of-state travel required (up to 25%).

Salary offered commensurate with experience.


  • Ensures effective planning, oversight, and facilitation of associated evaluation of extramural funded programs and research projects Office of Community Health and Research
  • Ensures effective coordination of multiple evaluation teams and team members, monitors the progress and performance of all aspects of the assigned area of responsibility including: responsive interactions with federal partners; contract development and negotiations; and, project reporting.
  • Works closely with leadership and staff in the development and execution of the strategic plan for all projects.
  • Contributes data related to areas of responsibility as part of a variety of teams across all projects.
  • Ensures effective and efficient workflow and adherence to quality standards.
  • Monitors workloads and adherence to deadlines; develops and conducts quality assurance review; and directs training of staff and investigators. 
  • Utilizes the principles of performance measurement and demonstrated ability to design, implement, analyze, and summarize complex research into coherent reports for utilization in decision making.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health, communications, sociology or other related field plus seven (7) years of experience working in research administration or management


  • Masters degree in health, communications, sociology or other related field plus five (5) years of experience working in research administration or management

Additional Requirements:

  • At least one (1) year of program management experience
  • Experience working in extramural-funded proposals writing, evaluation and reporting
  • Intermediate computer proficiency required to include an advanced working knowledge of the Window environment (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access)
  • Knowledge, mastery and fluency with building Internet and web queries, manipulating and retrieving data from complex database sources, managing news alerts technologies, and using electronic subscription services
  • Valid drivers' license required with current/valid automobile liability insurance and reliable transportation for moderate travel to UAMS in Little Rock, AR and surrounding communities (mileage reimbursed at the current state mileage reimbursement rate). A state vehicle is not available. Occasional out-of-state travel required

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Protocol/proposal development and/or evaluations/reporting development experience
  • Knowledge of common data elements as required for scientific report writing
  • Knowledge of budgets and contracts     
  • Experience working in the nonprofit sector and/or an academic or research institution


  • Proven library, research and analytical techniques, emphasizing the ability to supervise staff who gather, evaluate and synthesize complex data from various sources and present information in a clear and cohesive manner
  • Demonstrate superior writing skills, with an expeditious approach and the ability to condense and clarify information in written form
  • Ability to work independently and proactively, yet function in a collaborative team environment, exhibiting self-reliance, dependability, trustworthiness, good listening skills, and an ability to form effective working partnerships with colleagues
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities, to solve problems and to meet challenging and changing deadlines
  • Superior interpersonal skills with proven ability to successfully interact and collaborate with varied constituencies in a professional manner, exhibiting excellent written and oral communication skills and demonstrating tact and diplomacy working with a wide variety of personalities
  • High degree of professionalism, ethical sensitivity, confidentiality and discretion; proven ability to apply good judgment and responsible decision-making
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure
  • Must have mature judgment, as confidential information is routinely encountered
