    UAMS’ Department of Biomedical Informatics is a vibrant environment for research. It hosts multiple NIH/NCI funded projects and provides biomedical informatics insights to the entire UAMS community. The expertise and research interests of DBMI faculty cover multiple key disciplines of Biomedical Informatics, including Imaging Informatics, Bioinformatics, Clinical Research Informatics, and Semantic Web technologies in the life sciences.

     

    The Application Systems Analyst/Programmer – Senior develops, evaluates, and implements innovative informatics systems to solve complex healthcare and biomedical research issues.

    Responsibilities

    • Applies creativity in adopting proven technologies, platforms, and architectures to new problems. 
    • Takes direction in developing cutting edge technologies, platforms, and architectures. 
    • Tests, implements, and performs upgrades to keep applications running smoothly.
    • Performs application maintenance and troubleshooting and provides custom report writing.
    • Requires creativity, strong communication skills, collaboration with other levels of staff and faculty, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • May perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualfications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Social Science or related field PLUS Four (4) years of experience in information technology or research field

    OR

    • High School Diploma/GED PLUS eight (8) years of experience in information technology or research field

    Additional Requirements:

    • Experience with one or more of the following programming languages: Perl, Python, Java, C, C++, or C #
    • Experience with a web-based programming languages such as Java Script 
    • Experience in one or more relational databases such as MySQL, Microsoft SQL, Oracle, Sybase, Informix or PostgreSQL
    • Web-based framework experience in Django, Ruby on Rails, Node.JS or similar

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Informatics experience

    Competencies and Additional Responsibilities:

    • Proven ability to document and communicate the results is indispensable
    • Assignments involve systems analysis and programming work (full stack development) on tasks of high complexity
    • Ability to work under moderate general supervision
    • Tasks routinely involve key business systems and mission-critical applications
    • Moderate interaction with end-users, IT staff, and other division team members
