The Licensed Psychological Examiner (LPE)/Psychologist on the Child Diagnostic Unit (CDU) at the Psychiatric Research Institute (PRI) works as part of an interdisciplinary team to primarily provide diagnostic testing services to children admitted to the CDU and their families. S/He provides occasional direct clinical services to patients and families, including but not limited to, participating in the diagnostic assessment and discharge processes, individual therapy, family therapy, communicating with outpatient service providers, schools, other agencies or individuals to help gather information to aid in the assessment, treatment/evaluation and discharge process for each patient. Group interventions/activities for children or families may also become a part of required duties when the need arises. While it is preferable that most clinical services are provided face to face on the unit or in the therapist’s office, some collateral and family sessions may be held by phone when it is difficult for families to visit every week. S/He may be asked to flex their schedule to accommodate families who may have to schedule sessions or visits after hours or on weekends.

Salary: $23.32/hour


  • Provides Psychological Testing that is consistent with permission of the Arkansas Psychology Board and requested by the CDU’s lead psychologist. This includes provision and scoring of mental health screening tools and rating scales. This could include administration of individually administered IQ and achievement testing if needed.
  • Documents testing activities in the medical chart and in final testing reports as requested by the lead CDU psychologist. This role includes working with the CDU lead psychologist in explaining psychological evaluation findings to patients and families during their stay and as part of the discharge process.
  • Participates in scheduled treatment team or other clinical meetings and will be expected to provide progress reports on each patient at least once per week during treatment team meetings. While some of these required meetings such as treatment team are scheduled at specific times each week, some meetings such as those to finalize diagnoses may be set the day before or day of a discharge.  
  • May perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or related field PLUS one (1) year of experience working with children including internship sites
  • Must be licensed by the State of Arkansas as a: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW), Psychologist, or Licensed Psychological Examiner (LPE)
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD or PsyD (typically from an APA accredited doctoral training program) with a completed internship and postdoctoral hours for licensure
  • Two (2) or more years of Behavioral Health Experience
