Overview

The Quality Management (QM) Coordinator helps plan, develop, implement, monitor and improve the Quality Plan of their assigned Service Line to ultimately improve the quality of care at UAMS.  Working closely with their Service Line Quality Officer and Service Line Leadership, the Quality Management Coordinator works to assure that Service Line quality plans and activities are aligned with institutional priorities and that Service Line-specific gaps and opportunities are identified and addressed.  The QM Coordinator facilitates performance improvement teams related to Service Line priorities and focus areas.  The QM Coordinator works closely with Data Analysts who collect and compile data in support of the Service Line Plan.  The QM Coordinator participates on tactical teams related to institutional priorities, as appropriate.  The QM Coordinator utilizes the tools and methods of the UAMS Improvement System and helps lead formal training sessions, as appropriate.  The QM Coordinator helps to ensure organizational compliance with quality reporting measures established by CMS, TJ, Vizient and other regulatory and benchmarking agencies and organizations.

Responsibilities

 Performance Improvement Planning and Facilitation

  • Collaborates and partner with assigned Service Line Quality Officer(s) and Leadership to develop and implement annual Service Line Quality Plans. Assure that the plan is aligned with Vision 2029 and UAMS annual Institutional Improvement Priorities.  Identify appropriate and meaningful Service Line-specific priorities, improvement opportunities, and quality indicators.  
  • Collaborates and partner with assigned Service Line Quality Officer(s) and staff to organize the work to achieve annual quality objectives. Develop project charters and A3s, convene and facilitate tactical teams, design and implement project tracking of process and outcome measures, implement improvement interventions, and provide project management and change management facilitation and coaching. 
  • Collaborates and partner with assigned Service Line Quality Officer(s) to submit quarterly data and updates and compile annual plan evaluations. Participate in the UAMS institutional plan evaluation as appropriate and as requested.  
  • Utilizes the tools and methods of the UAMS Improvement System. Provide formal and just-in-time training and coaching on the tools, method, framework, and approach. 
  • Works with Data Analysts and IT to assure each Service Line has access to timely and accurate performance data to support their quality plan and improvement work.
  • Prepares presentations and reports, as requested and as required, for various oversite and governance committees as related to Service Line quality work.
  • Participates on teams, committees, and tasks forces as appropriate to the role within the Service Line

 Clinical Data Review and Analysis

  • Conducts focused data analysis and reviews to determine causal factors and gaps related to key performance targets and measures or when there is special cause variation. Utilize appropriate visual graphical tools and data displays (including control charts) to provide interpretation ease and meaningful conclusions.  Utilize more advanced statistical tools and analysis when appropriate. 
  • Compiles data and narrative reports that summarizing findings, determine causes, and make recommendations for improvement. Compile reports and presentations that summarize improvement projects and successful improvement activities. 
  • Designs and implement chart audit and quality monitoring tools as necessary.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in regard to elements needed to meet quality reporting measures and metrics requirements.

Quality Management Knowledge and Expertise

  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant quality standards, rules, regulations, and requirements.
  • Maintains current knowledge of quality and safety indicators as they pertain to assigned Service Line(s).
  • Maintains current knowledge of benchmarking frameworks and methodologies including CMS, Vizient, US News and World Report, and Magnet.  
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant databases and registries including the Vizient Clinical Data Base, NSQIP, VON, and GWTG.

 Regulatory and Accreditation

  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant regulatory and accreditation standards and requirements.
  • Assists with regulatory visits by providing support with data, policies, documentation, physical presence and participation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare related field PLUS three (3) years’ experience in quality improvement, performance improvement or program management and project management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience related to performance improvement and change management
  • Knowledge and experience related to accreditation and regulatory compliance
  • Ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Experience with reviewing charts in an Electronic Health Record

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree in a healthcare related field. 
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Six Sigma Black Belt, Lean Certification
