The HR Business Partner (HRBP) is responsible for aligning strategic business objectives with employees and management within designated service lines/departments. The position serves as a consultant to management and anticipates needs on human resource-related issues. The HRBP acts as an employee champion and change agent and seeks to develop integrated solutions; forms partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflect the business objectives of the organization, and executes strategic initiatives to support our mission and overarching goals of the institution.


The ideal candidate is a strong advocate for lifelong learning, takes on challenges with confidence, and demonstrates a high level of business acumen within every segment of business.  The model candidate is an exceptional communicator and proficient in workforce planning, mediation, coaching, budgeting, compliance, employee engagement and succession planning.


  • The HRBP works closely with other intra and interdepartmental entities both within and beyond the UAMS system and provides excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.
  • The HRBP identifies current and future organizational needs regarding the attraction, development and retention of talent, while collaborating closely with our Core HR Centers of Expertise. As a strategic partner, the HRBP assesses and anticipates HR-related needs and conducts meetings as needed with their respective service lines/departments.
  • Communicating needs proactively with peers, management, and the office of Human Resources, the HRBP seeks to develop integrated solutions.
  • The HRBP formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflect the business objectives of the organization.
  • The HRBP maintains an effective level of business literacy about the business unit’s financial position, its midrange plans, its culture and its competition. Additionally, the HRBP will take an active role in the budget planning process within their assigned service lines/departments.
  • The HRBP is also responsible for assisting managers with recruitment, staff orientation and employee development as needed in collaboration with our HR Centers of Expertise.
  • The HRBP may be responsible for planning and/or conducting departmental orientation for new hires as needed.
  • The HRBP is responsible for reviewing state and federal regulations and must maintain current competency in these as well as with Joint Commission accreditation and other similar regulatory standards pertinent to HR.

Salary offered commensurate with experience


  • Conducts weekly, monthly, quarterly meetings with respective business unit leaders as needed
  • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership within the Office of Human Resources to develop solutions, programs and policies.
  • Helps to manage and resolves employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations as needed.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with the Employee Relations and legal department as needed/required.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to front-line management and service line/department leadership (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, succession, disciplinary actions).
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Provides guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning and succession planning.
  • Participates in evaluation and monitoring of training programs to ensure success and follows up to ensure training objectives are met.
  • The HR Business Partner will provide hands-on leadership, encompassing both strategies and tactics, to enable talent and workforce management plans, organization and people effectiveness objectives, and the effective implementation of the full human resources management portfolio for an assigned service line(s) and/or departments
  • Some of the typical HR deliverables will include working with balanced scorecards, strategy maps, change management and execution of HR programs.
  • The HR Business Partner will exhibit and maintain high levels of discretion, ethical behavior, integrity and confidentiality at all times within their role and will always maintain an exceptionally high level of professionalism and customer service.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Applied Communication, Organizational Development/Management, Business Administration, or related field of study plus five (5) years of demonstrated accomplishment in multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws to include two (2) years of experience in a supervisory position.
  • Must have solid knowledge of current state and federal employment laws; experience in analyzing technical information and government documents; strong oral, written and listening skills with the ability to communicate with all levels within the assigned service line(s), as well as with the general public; excellent organization and time management skills, ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously; maturity, integrity and ability to handle confidential information in a strictly private manner; strong presentation and training skills; staff supervisory skills.  Must possess high level of financial and business acumen. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting clinical and nursing fields is strongly preferred, along with experience with accreditation audits through The Joint Commission and/or other regulatory accrediting bodies. 
  • Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Applied Communication, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or related degree of study is preferred.
  • Knowledgeable or Talent Management Systems, HRIS, and employee relations preferred.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
