The UAMS Department of Pathology is seeking a career driven Histotechnician/Histotechnologist to join our Immunohistochemistry team! Salary offered commensurate with experience

Responsibilities

  • Employing histological techniques in the histology and immunohistochemistry.
  • Capable of performing all clerical/computer functions regarding accessioning, data entry, and report generation.
  • Capable of performing lab tasks, including but not limited to: embedding, cutting and staining specimens. 
  • Is knowledgeable of all equipment operation and maintenance. 
  • Is knowledgeable of all policies and procedures of histology and IHC area.
  • Conducts all tasks compliantly with CLIA, CAP and JCAHO regulations.
  • Cable of communicating mechanical issues with service techs, fellow techs and lab supervisor and/or lab manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications for Histotechnician: 

  • High School diploma/GED and registered as an HT OR an Associates with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry. 
  • Ability to work on occasional weekends and on-call duties.
  • One year to obtain ASCP HT certification after completion of 12 consecutive months of full-time on the job training in a histopathology laboratory.

Minimum Qualifications for Histotechnologist:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a major in biological science or chemistry, OR a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the Bachelor's degree.
  • Ability to work on occasional weekends and on-call duties.
  • One year to obtain ASCP HTL certification after completion of 12 consecutive months of full-time on the job training in a histopathology laboratory. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified as HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP).
  • One (1) year (12 consecutive months) of full-time clinical experience in a histopathology laboratory OR a veterinary, industry or research related experience in a histopathology laboratory in the last five years.
