We are excited to announce an opportunity as a Medical Laboratory Scientist I in Blood bank! This great position will provide critical testing, and blood components for all patient care areas!

 

The UAMS Blood Bank is a Level 1 Trauma center that is focused on improving patient outcomes by performing advanced blood banking techniques, dispensing blood and blood components, and educating students. This position will provide direct patient care by supplying the patient with appropriate blood components as determined by accurate testing to ensure the patient receives the appropriate blood components. The MLS I position is responsible for performing ABO/Rh, IAT, DAT, antibody identification, cross-matching units of blood and running the automated ABO/RH, IAT equipment. Salary offered commensurate with experience

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for accurately performing type and screen, antibody identification, and cross-match functions for red blood cells with 100% accuracy.
  • Accurately interpreting and receiving orders and samples with 100% accuracy.
  • Performs platelet cross-matching and platelet antibody identification with 100% accuracy.
  • Performs daily reagent QC and equipment Preventive maintenance with 100% accuracy.
  • Accurately issue blood and blood components.
  • Accurately perform the Massive Transfusion Protocol.
  • Accurately wash red blood cells and platelets.
  • Effectively communicate with the blood bank customers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Sciences or ASCP approved discipline.   
  • ASCP or AMT certification or eligible for certification (Certification must be obtained with 12 months of hire date).
