Assessment should include, wired network jacks, wireless access points, network switches, data circuit bandwidth, etc. as well as business requirements for use of these • Design of work plans that will enable IT Network Engineering, VoIP & Video Conferencing to meet campus service level agreements. • Design of work plans that will keep equipment and software, under teams prevue, up-to-date. • Design of work plans for circuit bandwidth, networking, VoIP & video equipment, wired jack locations, wireless Access Points, and networked devices, as need to assist in design of new buildings or remodel of existing facilities. • Testing of vendor supplied updates and service packs.   Systems Support and Maintenance • Ensure timely update of Network Engineering, VoIP & Video Conference hardware and software to new Service packs, patches, etc. • Assist with resolution of user defined problems with production systems and/or production equipment • Monitoring performance of production systems and data circuits. Ensure automated monitoring of production systems when possible. • Installation and/or activation of data circuits, networking equipment: wired network jacks, wireless access points, network switches, etc. • IT Application Analyst and user coordination in support of productions systems   Technology Planning • In conjunction with the Network Engineering, Unified Communications & Video Conference teams: • Assessment of software tools that will enable all IT areas to provide quicker, more reliable, services to UAMS and its partners. • Assessment of emerging technologies that will enhance the UAMS IT environment • Assessment of emerging management needs • Selection of appropriate technologies and systems for UAMS and UAMS’ partners utilizing Community Connect, Arkansas e-LINK, ANGELS and other services. • Recommending technology standards appropriate for the UAMS environment • Coordination with other IT areas, Construction Management, and other UAMS departments in support of new system implementations and upgrades   Management – Staff & Projects • Project Management of Network Engineering projects to ensure upgrades, replacements, and new implementations are completed on-time and within budget • Oversight of networking deliverables for all projects to ensure projects are on-time, within scope, and meeting customer defined milestones • Work with external vendors – software, equipment, telecommunication – to get quotes for UAMS related projects • Monthly reporting of project status to IT Management and Customers • Ensure networking equipment as well as software have sufficient documentation to restore in a disaster. • Staff Management to include: work assignments, annual evaluations, leave management/approval, hiring & other personnel matters • Budget management & direct budget development for Network Engineering & Video Conference departments Communication • Ensure timely communication with co-workers regarding network, VoIP & video changes that have the potential to impact other IT teams and systems. Utilization of IT Governance to communicate policy changes as well as system changes that impact how a customer will use systems. Communicate to UAMS through IT Alerts, Newsletters, etc. both policy changes as well as system changes that impact customer interaction with systems. Represent the organization’s Local Area and Wide Area Network interest with external parties.   Other related duties as assigned.

Ensure automated monitoring of production systems when possible. • Installation and/or activation of networking equipment: wired network jacks, wireless access points, network switches, etc. • Update wired and wireless systems drawing as changes and/or additions are made to productions systems. • Maintain IP assignments. • Update hardware and software inventory and version control information as items are added, removed or modified using established record keeping processes. • IT Application Analyst coordination in support of productions systems. • Written and verbal communication at a department level concerning system maintenance and/or downtime.  Infrastructure Technology Planning • Assessment of software tools that will enable all IT areas to provide quicker more reliable services to UAMS. • Assessment of emerging technologies that will enhance the UAMS IT environment. • Assessment of emerging management needs. • Selection of appropriate technologies and systems for UAMS. • Recommending technology standards appropriate for the UAMS environment. • Coordination with other IT areas in support of new system implementations and upgrades.   Cloud Infrastructure Technology Planning • Assessment of emerging cloud technologies that will enhance the UAMS IT environment. • Assessment of emerging cloud management needs. • Evaluation and recommendation of appropriate technologies and cloud providers for UAMS needs with other IT areas and stakeholders. • Coordination with other IT areas in support of new cloud system implementations and upgrades.   WAN Circuit Evaluation and Planning • Assessment of existing data circuits in the area of circuit quality, down times, and bandwidth. • Recommendation of appropriate existing data circuit bandwidth as customer needs change. • Assessment of existing circuit or new circuit needs & costs with recommendation of appropriate sizing of bandwidth, appropriate technical delivery mechanisms, and vendor selection to best balance needs and costs.   Disaster recovery preparedness • Responsible for monitoring regular backups of the system • Plan for system recovery in the event of a failure • Documentation for the disaster recovery plan is to be kept current at all times and tested periodically   Other  related duties as assigned.
